YYZ Artists’ Outlet announces this year’s Open House to occur on Thursday, December 5th from 5pm to 8pm. Come and help us celebrate the season with exhibitions on view by Hannah Claus, Sandra Brewster, and Ximena Berecochea. YYZ will also take this opportunity to recognize the support of the Ontario Trillium
Foundation through their Capital Grants program for facilities upgrades enabling the installation
of a top of the line HVAC system.

Scheduled special performances to start at 6:30pm: featuring a publication launch of Cool Customer “Volume II” a screening of David Askevold’s “Very Soon You Will, with Carol Williams” (1977) and a performance by musicians Spirit Josh.

Cool Customer is creating a space for a collective grieving process, for honesty, intimacy and healing through creative expression. The publication is interested in the way grief is articulated and has featured work that brings the historically private response to grief into the public sphere. This project is the beginning of finding a way to process loss and trauma amidst peers.

David Askevold, “Very Soon You Will, with Carol Williams” (1977)
The room is dark and a recording of 14 tuning forks is playing in the room. The subject is asked to lie on a cot and relax. An overhead spotlight illuminates the face. She is asked to imagine a soft-focus screen behind her eyelids where images will come and go and she is to describe what she sees. She is then told that she “will very soon” experience a violent form of death and I ask her if she is surprised this is happening to her. A consistent set of conditions begin to set in and the dialogue description of the images she is seeing and experiencing takes place. Spirit Josh is Matt Jonn Lewis, Sam Szigeti, and Alex Nunes. The Spirit Josh album is a gift to Josh, little brother of Matt Jonn Lewis, on his would be 21st birthday. Josh passed away a little over two years ago and left Matt a little money with which he bought a guitar and wrote to the ether.
